I’ve been reluctant to teach publicly much about prayer because I wanted to make sure I actually had something to say and that I personally had a real prayer life that would be worth exporting and imitating. After having spent the last 20 years cultivating a life of prayer, I feel very confident in my life in God and there are many lessons that I learned along the way that I’d like to share now in the hopes that I might encourage the next generation of God’s friends how they too can have a real and meaningful prayer life. I decided to make this series very practical and so while I have frequently taught on the “why’s” of prayer this series is aimed specifically at “how” to have an actual prayer life. See you at His feet.
The primary pursuit of every believer should be to love God with all we have. When Jesus was presented with the opportunity to identify what the greatest teaching was on the subject of God, genuine discipleship and obedience, He answered with something that is at first quite shocking, He said love, God wants our love. His answer would have far-reaching impact all the way to the Church in modern day; this is still God’s priority. We want to continually be on the journey of how to live wholeheartedly in the midst of trends all around us that seek to diminish our love for Jesus. In this series, we are going to look at what this exhortation means and how we can apply it in our modern context.
The word unceasing is unsettling; anything that starts and never stops is quite demanding. Unceasing prayer and adoration is the mandate of the Church; to give Jesus everything He is due. The unceasing nature of this calling ascribes His worth; declares His perfection and accentuates His infinite glory. Unceasing prayer is necessary, unceasing adoration is beautiful and unceasing prayer and worship is His prescribed will for us. It’s powerful to our soul and transformational to our culture; it’s both historic and future. Unceasing adoration connects Earth to Heaven; it consumes the living creatures around the throne as well as the houses of prayer scattered across the nations. This series seeks to unveil the glories, wonder of, and reasons for unceasing prayer and praise to fill the Earth.
The Gospel of Matthew records a famous sermon of Jesus’ where He lays out what can rightly be seen as the constitution of the Kingdom of God. These three chapters are known as Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and they define for us what real Christianity should look like. The subjects presented in this sermon are not flashy, instead they are quite challenging because of how they impact our routines, motives and responses. In this short course we will look at the principles that Christ lays out for us and talk about practical ways to apply these values in our day-to-day lives.
